We liked it so much I ordered one for our son and his family. It really seems to help get that nice crusty bread we like. I just put it on the bottom rack and let it heat while preheating. I also use it in my oven when I’m baking bread to help my cheap oven keep an even heat. I give a light scrub, rinse it and put it back in a warm oven for a bit to dry it out. I use a peel to put the pizza on and remove it. I always let it cool completely before taking it out. ![]() It’s heavy so I have to really get a good grip on it with my old hands before I remove it from the oven. It does have a bit of an odor at first and a lot of moisture came out the first time after I pre-rinsed it, but that fades. It is still in the seasoning process which takes a while, but we’ve had excellent results so far. The price was good and deilvery was quick. I did some research and found this one at Home Depot. After cracking our old (15 years+) stone we were desparate to get a new one. Use tepid water and scrub with baking soda to remove any odors. Do not use any chemical sealers, even food-grade sealants, as high temperatures will damage the natural stone by causing the sealants to expand and crack the stone. Note that unsealed surfaces will stain over time, but this staining does not affect the flavor or quality of your pizza. Make sure the stone is completely dry before seasoning and using again. Always scrape off all spilled or cooked food with a stiff brush, scrubbing pad, or plastic scraper, and simply wipe the surface of the stone with a damp cloth. ![]() As this stone is not glazed, it is not sealed in any way, so food and oils can seep below the surface. Putting a hot stone into tepid water will weaken its structural integrity and can cause small fractures that could lead to eventual breakage. *Never clean a pizza stone with soap* Only clean your pizza stone after it has completely cooled. This half-inch thick cordierite baking stone loves heat and is safe to 1450☏! It works in the oven or on the grill, and we call it a pizza stone, but it's just as good for breads and tortillas.
